As a physician you know all too well how patients are adversely affected when the delivery of care doesn’t go as well as it could. You also know firsthand the state of flux that the health care system and the medical profession are currently in as everyone grapples with change. You can have an impact by participating in the Advanced Physician Leadership Program, a yearlong training program that gives physicians the tools to lead effectively and help transform systems of care.

The objectives of the program are to:

  • Strengthen the ability of physicians to assume leadership roles within both the profession and communities across the state; and
  • Grow a cadre of Colorado physician leaders that are trained, willing and confidently able to serve as champions to improve the delivery of cost-effective, quality and safe care.

The first APLP class gave glowing praise of the program. Ninety-four percent of participants agreed or strongly agreed that the program was a good investment of time regarding personal development. One hundred percent said they had applied their leadership skills in work situations more or much more than before the leadership training.

“There are few opportunities for physicians to learn about leadership in such a positive and collegial environment,” said a 2012 APLP participant. “The exercises, reading and information presented provided a unique learning environment that was critical to conveying the complex concepts of leadership.”

There are currently no programs open for application at this time.
