COMPAC

COMPAC is the nonpartisan political action committee of the Colorado Medical Society made up of physicians and medical students. Our goal is to support and elect pro-physician, pro-patient candidates on the state level. On the federal level, COMPAC works in conjunction with AMPAC, the American Medical Association’s Political Action Committee, to represent the interests of physicians and their patients before Congress.

COMPAC does not endorse candidates based on political party. We use the following objective criteria to determine which candidates to endorse:

  • A candidate’s philosophy and positions on medical issues: Does the candidate support CMS’ positions on our priority issues as described in our Candidate Briefing Document? What guides them when forming policy positions?
  • A candidate’s voting record on medicine’s issues: This is only applicable to incumbents. Are they friendly incumbents, i.e., voted with CMS on many of CMS priority issues listed above?
  • Demographics of the district and a candidate’s ability to win.

COMPAC and Candidate Screening Committee: Screening committees are made up of local physicians, medical students and Connection members who interview their candidate running for state office. These physicians then recommend a candidate for endorsement to COMPAC, using the criteria above. This process ensures that COMPAC receives input from the physicians who live and work in the candidate’s district.
